It’s summertime in Evesham, and among the return of sunny skies, barbecues and swimming pools, it also means the return of Evesham Township’s Summer Concert Series.

As in years past, the seven-week series of concerts will take place at 7 p.m. every Monday night throughout July and most of August at the Gibson House Community Center.

Admission is free, and members of the public are invited to sit in the air-conditioned community center and listen to the sounds of the different musical acts.

Director of Recreation and Senior Services Monica Vandenberg described the annual concert series as an amenity the township is pleased to provide. Vandenberg also said the township is fortunate it has an indoor locale for its concerts, as opposed to other towns that typically hold a concert series on grass areas.

“We have a venue that can accommodate such a large crowd, and it also provides air conditioning and seating,” Vandenberg said.

For the first show on July 6, audiences will have a chance to listen to the sounds of the Gloucester City String Band. The band describes itself as Mummers offering up an orchestral-like concert “with timeless appeal in the Philadelphia style.”

The second show on July 13 will feature the Timeless Tunes Trio, through which musicians will use their percussion, guitar and bass instruments to play standards, rock and roll, Motown and other hits from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.

Then, on July 20, the township will hold its third show with High Noone Express, which bills itself as “the little band with a big sound.”

The singing musical duo of High Noone Express performs a track list that spans the gamut from oldies, to standards, to classic and modern country, to R&B to modern pop and classic rock.

The following week on July 27 will be a more focused show with the Sounds of Sinatra, a collection of songs from the famous solo artist and New Jersey native Frank Sinatra.

As the concert series moves into August, the next show in the lineup will be Hank’s Cadillac on Aug. 3. to play some classic country songs. The group’s repertoire also features classic rock, roots music with a twist of country and some jazz standards.

The penultimate show will take place on Aug. 10 and will feature Unforgettable, a band with soft sounding classics.

Finally, on Aug. 17, the last show in the series will take place with the Fralinger String Band. The 2015 concert series started with Mummers and will end with Mummers when the Fralinger String Band hits town to close the series with upbeat songs.

Vandenberg said the concerts usually draw a mixed crowd, with mostly seniors, but there’s always a full house.

“Always pleasantly surprised that we have such a large crowd,” Vandenberg said.
